The Ballynahinch Rugby Club hails from County Down in Northern Ireland. They were invited in 2022 to play Swansea in the latter's pre-season friendlies for their 150th season of 2022-23. With the cricket season still on at St Helen's, the match took place on the Swansea University Playing Fields. Swansea emerged winners by 63 - 7 and the two teams cemented their friendship in the St Helen's Pavilion afterwards. The visit was deemed very successful and set the celebratory tone for the whole of the 150th season activities. Founded in 1954 the Ballynahinch club has grown rapidly, winning the Ulster Towns Cup in 1964 and establishing themselves at their new ground of Ballymacarn Park in 1970. As a senior club they won their promotion from All Ireland League Division 4 to Division 3 in 1996-97 and Division 2 the following season. In 2008-09 they achieved their aim of promotion to AIB League Division 1.
