Info

This is a training jersey from the Irish rugby squad. It belonged to Irish international back row Rhys Ruddock. Son of Swansea player and coach Mike Ruddock, Rhys played 3 matches for Swansea in the 2008-09 season. Being Irish born and of an Irish mother, Rhys gravitated to the Leinster team. He had played for Mumbles in Swansea and followed through U16, U18 & U20 grades with Ospreys and Wales, establishing himself in the Irish national side via Emerging Ireland and Irish Wolfhounds. Rhys made his senior Ireland debut aged 19 years, on tour against Australia on 26th June 2010 and won 27 full caps up to his final game for Ireland in Dublin on 14th February 2021. He had played in two Rugby World Cups for Ireland in 2015 and 2019 and had the honour of captaining both Leinster and Ireland. Rhys Ruddock retired from rugby at the end of 2023-24 aged 33 years. This jersey was signed by Rhys and kindly donated to the St Helen's Archive by his sister Katy Ruddock in November 2023.
