Description

Match programme, Swansea Ex-Schoolboys v Cardiff Ex-Schoolboys at St Helen's, 10th April 1925.

Info

A match day programme from the Swansea Ex-Schoolboys versus Cardiff Ex-Schoolboys match at St Helen's on Friday 24th January (Good Friday) 1925. Swansea Ex-Schoolboys won the match by 12 points to 10 (4 tries to 2 converted goals) . Rugby great and former Swansea and Wales captain W J (Billy) Trew was the referee in this match. He died the following year as a result of the many injuries he received in a long career, so this was one of his last rugby activities.
In the match Swansea scored two unconverted tries by Stanton and Jenkins. In the second-half Ring scored for Cardiff, which try was converted by Stone. Swansea replied with two more unconverted tries by Goodman and Stone to secure the win. This programme was kindly made available to scan by Andrew Hague, whose grandfather Graham Roberts was responsible for the artwork on the front cover. Two more examples of this work are available on MP2060 and MP2061 and we are grateful to Andrew for making these rare items available to the St Helen's Archive.
