Description

Match programme, Swansea v Llanelli at St Helen's, 24th January 1925.

Info

A match day programme from the Swansea versus Llanelli match at St Helen's on Saturday 24th January 1925. Swansea won the match by 14 points to 9 . Before the match kicked off the brass plaque above the players' entrance to the pitch was dedicated by the town's mayor. It recorded the players from the Swansea Cricket & Football Club who had lost their lives in the Great War.
In the match, Edgar Price scored twice for Swansea, early on and late in the second-half. Dr Bertram converted the earlier try and kicked a penalty goal, as did hooker Dai Parker. For Llanelli, K. Finch scored an early try, converted by Albert Jenkins, who also kicked a penalty goal. This programme was kindly made available to scan by Andrew Hague, whose grandfather Graham Roberts was responsible for the artwork on the front cover. Two more examples of this work are available on MP2060 and MP2061 and we are grateful to Andrew for making these rare items available to the St Helen's Archive.
