Description

Newspaper cutting South Wales Daily News Monday 7th January 1895 page 6 - Wales v England rugby international match at Swansea.

Info

This newspaper article from January 1895 describes the rugby international at St Helen's ground, Swansea between Wales and England. England won the match by 14 - 6. It was the twelfth meeting of the two sides and the third one to be held at St Helen's following Wales' first international played on home soil in December 1882, and again in 1885 both of which were hosted by St Helen's. Wales thus far had just one victory against England in 1890. Swansea's Billy Bancroft gained his 16th of 33 consecutive caps at full-back and fellow 'All White' Tom Jackson gained his only Welsh cap in the pack. With the scores at a try each at half-time, England came from behind in the second-half with three unanswered tries.
