This photograph of the Swansea RFC 1st XV of 1908-09 was taken underneath the old pavilion building that stood at the north-west corner of the St Helen's Ground. The other known image of the team is a collage (see: PH076, PH089 and PH097). Swansea were Welsh Champions this season for the first time since the 'Invincible' season of 1904-1905, and had a playing record of P: 36, W: 31, D: 2, L: 3, Pts For: 412, Pts Ag: 76. Note the seated players sit upon cricket pads. This image, which sadly, is no longer to be found at St Helen's appeared in the "Images of Sport - Swansea RFC 1873-1945" book by Bleddyn Hopkins and was kindly retrieved from the publishers Tempus, to be restored to the St Helen's Archive digitally. The personnel in the image are: (Back Row L to R): Dai 'Port Tennant' Davies, George Hayward, E Perkins (Non. Sec.), Harry Hunt, Ike Williams, Ben Davies.
