Description

Photograph on postcard, B&W. George Hayward & friends on Swansea beach. Tears repaired by family with end pieces from postage stamp book. Reverse marked in ball point pen: "G. Heywood [sic], E. Davies, W Wiberg. 1904 Swansea Sands". Dimensions: w4" x h3" (w11cm x h8cm).

Info

This candid family photograph shows George Hayward, the future Swansea and Wales forward showing his athleticism by jumping over a rope held by two friends. The rope appears to be approximately 3'6" to 4' high. On the reverse, George's name is misspelt, presumably by the friend who took the photograph. Hayward was renowned for his great athleticism for a large man. He was 5' 9" (1.75m) and 15st 7lb (98.4kg) in 1913. Kindly donated by the family of George Hayward.
