Info
The plaque of the Lansdowne Rugby Club, Dublin, Ireland (est: 1872). The Lansdowne club in Dublin has strong connections with Swansea RFC. The two clubs have played in Dublin and in Swansea, a total of nine matches. The first occasion was on 26 September 1982 at Lansdowne Road and most recently on 4 February 1994 also at Lansdowne Road. Swansea have won seven of the encounters and the Lansdown club two. Early connections between the two clubs include the Irish international wing Albert Freear, who played for both clubs. He played for the Lansdowne club from 1894 to 1901 and for Swansea from 1901 to 1903. Swansea tours to Ireland regularly included fixtures with the Lansdowne Club, who shared the Lansdowne ground with the Wanderers club since 1880. Former Swansea player and coach and Wales coach Mike Ruddock also coached the Lansdowne club. Lansdowne RFC have produced over a hundred Irish international players and continue a long history of league and cup successes in Ireland.
