Info

This is a set of 9 hand made posters from a class project by Year Six of Sketty Primary School. The posters were all made by the pupils using water colour and made to reflect the designs used in the original anti-apartheid posters of 1969. The work related to the Swansea v South Africa rugby match at St Helen's on 15th November 1969, during with there were violent scenes when anti-apartheid protesters took the protest onto the pitch. The ensuing furore in the media highlighted the widespread opposition to the apartheid system then in place in South Africa. the School project examined the protests and reasons for opposition to the unjust system. The pupils presented their work to the Archive Team at St Helen's in March 2024 and again in December 2024. For more information on this and the letters sent by pupils following their visits to St Helen's, see "The Battle of Swansea" - Swansea v Springboks 1969 feature in the Education section of this website, under 'Student & Volunteer Projects'.
