This is the Wales jersey worn by flanker Helen Carey in Wales Women’s first ever full international fixture on 5th April 1987. The match was against England and was played at Pontypool Park. England won the match by 22-4 but the fixture was of historic significance for Women’s rugby in Wales. John Grice, who coached at Swansea University was the Head Coach of the Welsh team, who were captained by Lisa Burgess. Helen Carey was playing her rugby at the Swansea Uplands club at this time and played 24 times for Wales between 1987 and 1994.
