Info
This letter from Mr Arthur Jackson to the Swansea Rugby Club refers to Arthur's grandfather, Swansea and Wales forward Tom Jackson. In the letter Mr Jackson confirms that he is the grandson of Tom and that he wishes to pass the Wales cap that Tom won, to the memorabilia collection at St Helen's. Mr Jackson erroneously refers to the Wales cap as dating from 1896. This is an understandable mistake as the date embossed on the peak of the cap can easily be read as 1895 or 1896. Tom Jackson won his only Welsh cap on 5th January 1895 at his club ground of St Helen's against England. He made his senior Swansea debut on 9th September 1893 against Pontardawe at St Helen's. Between 1893-94 and 1898-99 Tom played 146 matches for the Swansea 1st XV, scoring 34 tries. He also won representative honours with Glamorgan County FC
