Digital Audio File. Conversation between Teifion Williams and his son Justin Griffiths Williams. Recorded pre-2014.

Info

This is an audio recording of former Swansea wing and captain (1957-58) Teifion Williams, in conversation with his son Justin Griffiths Williams. In the conversation, Teifion is looking at a photograph of himself scoring a try for Swansea against a Ranji Walker's XV at St Helen's. The image was taken either in 1953-54 or the following season - Teifion admits he cannot recall the season. Teifion is particularly interested in the person in the crowd immediately to the left of the head of the nearest player to Teifion. This man, who appears to be wearing a frock coat and tall black hat, Teifion has identified as Kingsley Amis, the famous novelist, poet and teacher, who was teaching out of Swansea University at the time. Teifion tells how he and kingsley talked of rugby instead of literature during their one to one tutorials. On12th September 1953, Teifion scored a try against walker's XV in an 11 - 3 win. On 11th September 1954 he scored two tries against Walker's XV in a 9 - 11 loss. On both occasions D.O. (David Onllwyn) Brace played for Walker's XV. He is present in the photograph on the far right, referred to by Teifon as the current Wales scrum-half. Teifon also mentions Len Blyth as linesman. Blyth is in view in the striped jersey with flag.
