Info
This image of Swansea Cricket Club's 1st XI is from the first decade of the 20th century. Identifiable in the photograph are: Back row 1st left W. Percy Morris, 4th left H.A. Ellis, 6th left Harry Creber, 7th left Dai Gwyn (Umpire). Also: front row 1st left Dan Thissen, 2nd left W.J. "Billy" Bancroft, 3rd left E.W. Jones (capt.), 4th left A W Cameron, 5th left Stanley Rees. Also: seated Tommy Hopkins (scorer). In this image Rees, Bancroft (Jack & Billy), Thissen, Morris, Ellis, Creber, E.W. Jones and Cameron were all at some time Glamorgan County players. The image dates from between 1906 and 1908. E.W. Jones was 1st XI captain for those seasons. It is probable that the date is 1907. An excellent view of the early pavilion (1878) is featured in the background, where the window to the scorer's place is visible on the left. This pavilion was replaced in 1930 with the one on the current site, above the ground. Note the different styles of blazer worn. Billy Bancroft wears the one more common to the rugby club. the striped blazers show three slightly different styles.
