Info

This image of Swansea Cricket Club's 1st XI is from the first decade of the 20th century. Although the photograph and mount give only the photographers' details (A & G Taylor of Swansea), thanks to the image being reproduced in the South Wales Daily Post of 25 May 1907, all the personnel can now be identified as follows: Back row (L to R): Percy Morris, Frank Humphries, Jimmy Maxwell, H. A. Ellis, Edgar Billings, Harry Creber, Dai Gwynn (Umpire). Front Row (L to R): James Horspool, Billy Bancroft, E W Jones [capt.], Dr A.C.W. Cameron, Stanley Rees. Sitting at front: T Hopkins (scorer).

In this image all players except Frank Humphries were at some time Glamorgan County players. The image dates from the 1907 season. E.W. (Ernest William) Jones was 1st XI captain for 1906, 1907 and 1908.

An excellent view of the early pavilion (1878) is featured in the background, where the window to the scorer's place is visible on the left. This pavilion was replaced in 1930 with the one on the current site, above the ground. Note the different styles of blazer worn. Billy Bancroft wears the one more common to the rugby club. the striped blazers show three slightly different styles.
