Description

Info

This photograph is of the team that played Swansea at St Helen's on 15th December 1951. The Springboks won the match 11 - 3. But it was a much closer match than the score suggests and the teams stood at 3 - 3 with just seven minutes remaining. J K "Chum" Ochse scored in the corner and A "Okey" Geffen converted and added a huge penalty kick from half-way to give an 11 - 3 final score. On 22nd December Wales lost 3 - 6 to the Springboks and Swansea's Billy Williams and skipper Len Blyth played in the game. Blyth was supposed to have stepped down from the Swansea v Springboks game just a week before the international but as Swansea captain, wanted to represent the club and played regardless. . Back Row (L to R): S S Viviers (Touch judge), P W Wessels, B Myburgh, J Pickard, E Dinkelmann, A C Koch, C J Van Wyck, T H Phillips (Neath) - Referee. 2nd row (L to R): J Buchler, S Fry, A Geffen, H Muller - capt., D J Sinclair, F P Marais, J K Ochse.
