Description

Minute book, bound and hand-written, Swansea Cricket Club 1866-1871. Digitalised at 175 pages.

Info

This is the earliest surviving record of the Swansea cricket club's activities. It was passed to the Swansea Cricket & Football Club by Mr A.L. Bertie Perkins in 1979 (see: OT146 letter), who was the son of Mr C.H. Perkins, long time Hon. Secretary of the Swansea Cricket Club. The minute book is of great historical interest as it describes the period during which the Swansea Cricket Club was being ejected from its Brunswick Field Ground and formed a 'Field Committee' to procure a new ground. This led to the cricket club moving to the Brynymor ground in Uplands. Many of the early adventures of the cricket club are described, including matches against the United All England XI and other touring sides.
