Description

Ceramic plate, white with Llantwit Major coat of arms in centre. "Centenary Year" above, "1889" and "1989" either side and "Llantwit Major RFC" beneath. Also: "Presented to Swansea Athletic RFC" around base of plate. The reverse has hand-written details of the Llantwit Major coat of arms and a dedication from the maker 'Jeremy Phillip Pottery' to Llantwit Major RFC. Diameter: 7 3/4" (19.5cm)

This ceramic plate, especially produced for Llantwit Major RFC for their centenary season of 1980-90, was presented to the Swansea Athletic team after a fixture between the two teams. The text on the reverse reads: "The Coat of Arms used by Llantwit Major RFC was that of St Illtyd - a knight of the Round Table and Principle of the College at Llantwit Major. The three masts symbolise the three schools, the castles are for the colleges of saints, and the six darts are for the six Churches for Christian Learning. All these could be found at Llantwit Major. To celebrate the centenary of Llantwit Major RFC from Jeremy Phillips Pottery, Llandow. Fine bone China."
