Info

This is the jersey worn by Australian right wing Damian Smith on 4th November 1992 when the reigning rugby union World Champions Australia were defeated 21 - 6 by Swansea at St Helen’s. Smith began his senior career with the ‘Souths’ in Brisbane. He also played for Eastern Suburbs (Sydney), Gold Coast and then for Queensland Reds between 1992 and 2002. Future Swansea Coach John Conolly was responsible for his selection for Queensland in 1992. Smith was capped 21 times by Australia between 1993 and 1998, scoring 8 tries, 2 of which came in the 1995 World Cup. At 6ft,1in he was a larger than average winger for the era, his athleticism being illustrated by a fine try in the win against England in the 1995 RWC.
