Info

This photograph illustrates the Glamorgan county team that played Gloucestershire at the Athletic ground, Albion Street, Cheltenham on 26th October 1910. Gloucestershire won the match 15 - 5 in front of 1,000 spectators. Swansea forward Ben Davies captained the team which also contained fellow Swansea forward Tom Morgan and back Jim Rapsey, in this instance representing Pontardawe. His erstwhile Pontardawe team mate W J Lewis was also in the team, though as a Treorchy player in this match. Lewis would join Swansea in 1911. Bill Perry of Neath was a former Swansea player. Pascoe Howells was listed as a Penarh player but had resigned the club captaincy and left the club at this time. The Swansea connection is again marked in the score as Tom Morgan scored Glamorgan's only try and Jim Rapdey converted it. Glamorgan County wore navy, red and white hooped jerseys. Team personnel: Back Row (L to R): James Birch (Neath), Dick Thomas (Mountain Ash), Bill Perry (Neath), Tom Morgan (Swansea), F Davies Treorchy), Billy Spiller (Treorchy). 2nd Row (L to R): Tom Schofield (Bridgend - touch judge), Gerwyn Groves (Aberavon, Pascoe Howells (ex-Penarth), Arthur lovelock (Cardiff), Ben Davies captain - Swansea), Frank Hawkins (Pontypridd), J H Hopkins (Mountain ash), W J Lewis (Treorchy), F Nicholls (Leicester - Referee). front Row (L to R): Jim Rapsey (Pontardawe), E Phillips (Llwynypia).
