Felix “René” (or “Poulet”) Lasserre wore this jersey when, as a back row forward he captained France against Wales at St Helens on 24th February 1923. Wales won by 16 points to 8. Lasserre scored a try. Swansea’s Rowe Harding crossed the line for Wales. Swansea was also represented by Gwilym Michael and Tom Parker (who kicked a penalty). Lasserre played for the Bayonne, Cognac and Grenoble clubs. He won 16 French caps between 1914 and 1924, playing variously at full-back, outside-half, centre or flanker as required. Lasserre also played v Wales in 1914 at Swansea and 1921 in Cardiff. He played his last 2 matches for France at the 1924 Olympic Games, beating Romania and losing in the final to the USA. He served as a pilot in the French Air Corps in the Great War and died in 1965.
