Info
This photograph shows Clifford Cox wearing the colours of Danygraig RFC (red & white hoops). He is holding his Swansea Schools rugby League cap (see CP042). Clifford played for the junior section of the Danygraig club from 1934 to 1936. He was awarded his Swansea Schols cap in 1936. Clifford served in the Royal Artillery in the Second World War, and his family say he was among the first to land on the beaches on D Day 6th June 1944. He was a Bench joiner by trade and worked for many years in the Bennets Brothers works on Heathfield Crescent, Swansea. A skilled craftsman, Clifford was chosen one year to build the ceremonial chair with which the winner of the poetry contest is invested. His SSRL cap was gifted to the St Helen's Archive by his nephew Steven Cox in May 2022.
