Info

This Swansea Schools Rugby League cap from the 1935-36 season belonged to Clifford Cox. Clifford played for the Danygraig club from 1934 to 1936 and was awarded this Swansea Schools league cap in 1936. It was presented to the St Helen's Archive in May 2022 by his nephew Steven Cox, along with two photographs of Clifford in his red & white hooped Danygraig colours and holding the cap (see PH225 & PH226). Clifford served in the Royal Artillery in the Second World War, and his family say he was among the first to land on the beaches on D Day 6th June 1944. He was a Bench joiner by trade and worked for many years in the Bennetts Brothers works on Heathfield Crescent, Swansea. A skilled craftsman, Clifford was chosen one year to build the ceremonial chair with which the winner of the poetry contest is invested.
