Abstract
This letter was written on behalf of the wife of Hedley Perry, who played for Swansea RFC in the 1920s and played in the match versus New South Wales Waratahs on 1st Oct. 1927. The Waratahs won a hard match 11 - 0. The Waratahs tour of 1927-28 saw them play 38 matches, including the 2 preliminary matches in Australia, the UK tour and French and Canadian matches. They won 31, drew 2 and lost 5 matches. Only 4 matches were lost on the British part of the tour, 2 of those to the international sides of England and Scotland. Hedley Perry was a full-back with Swansea. He had begun playing at Brynmill School and Swansea Grammar School before joining the 'All Whites'. An all round athlete, he held school records at 220 yds and was a good quarter-mile runner. He was also resolute tackler and the newspaper that accompanied this letter described his making a desperate try saving tackle on Waratahs front row E J Thorn.
