Abstract
This issue of the 'Golden Penny' magazine featured Swansea Rugby Club. As the issue was published early in the 1899-1900 season, it referred to the two Championship winning seasons of 1889-90 and 1890-91 as a high spot in the club's history, which it was. But taking up the story again at the time of writing, Swansea had another Championship season under their belts (1898-99) and were on the cusp of their 'Golden Era', dominating rugby in Wales and beyond and culminating in an 'Invincible' season in 1904-05. Another Championship (1912-13) and two tourist scalps (Australia in 1908 ans South Africa in 1912) would follow. But the article is instructive in highlighting events alrerady part of Swansea rugby folklore, like the Challenge Cup wins, the saga of the James Brothers David and Evan, travelling to play in Paris and other highlights and personalities of the era.
