Abstract

This is a photograph of C H (Hedley) Perry, who played for Swansea RFC in the 1920s and played in the match versus New South Wales Waratahs on 1st Oct. 1927. The Waratahs won a hard match 11 - 0. Hedley Perry was a full-back with Swansea. He had begun playing at Brynmill School and Swansea Grammar School before joining the 'All Whites' in 1927. An all round athlete, he held school records at 220 yds and was a good quarter-mile runner. He was also resolute tackler and the 'Sporting Post' reporting on the Waratahs match described his making a desperate try saving tackle on Waratahs front row E J Thorn. The image and a copy of the 'Sporting Post' were kindly sent to the club by his widow Mrs H C Perry (see: OT118 & NC008).
