Abstract
Ernest Davies Esq JP Elected president Swansea Cricket and Football Club 2nd May 1952. Former Chairman from 1931-1932. Ernest was President till 1957. During his tenure as Chairman Swansea became the first club side to have defeated New Zealand (1935) and also fought a 6 - 6 draw with New Zealand (1953). Ernest Davies also had the honour of serving as WRU President for 1953-1954. Davies was present at the Benefit match for the late Dicky Owen on 26th April 1932 and ceremonially kicked off the match, along with Cpt. Lionel Lindsay (Chief Constable Glamorgan Police). Ernest Davies was also Patron of the Swansea District Supporters' Club. When the photograph was in a frame a small brass plaque was attached, with the inscription: "ERNEST DAVIES ESQ. J.P. ELECTED PRESIDENT SWANSEA CRICKET & FOOTBALL CLUB 2nd MAY 1952. FORMER CHAIRMAN FOR MANY YEARS."
