Abstract

This Sydney R U Jersey was presented to Swansea RFC following the match against Swansea on 21st March 1984 at St Helen's. Swansea won the match 28 - 21. they led 22 - 6 at half-time but home scrum-half Huw "Spider" Davies broke a leg while trying to stop an Australian score. The tourists rallied and a close result ensued. This was the second time the SRU had toured extensively, the earlier one being in 1977. On the 1984 tour they played the Zebra club (Italy), Toulon, Brive Athletic Club, RFU President's XV at Devon, Swansea and Ulster. The match against Swansea was originally to have been against Cardiff. in the 28 - 22 win Swansea tries were scored by Clive Williams, Malcolm Davey and Tony Swift. Mark Wyatt kicked 3 conversions and 2 penalties.
