Abstract

This London Welsh jersey was worn by Mervyn Davies. He played for the 'Exiles' from 1968 to 1972. Mervyn played a couple of 3rd and 2nd XV games before making the No8 jersey his own for the club and likewise, the Wales (1969-76) and 'Lions' (1971 & 1974) No8 jerseys became synonymous with "Merve the swerve". His spell at London Welsh included a golden era for the club, culminating in the Championship season of 1970-71. Davies was instrumental in developing their expansive game. He won 19 of his 38 Welsh caps with London Welsh before joining Swansea in 1972. This jersey was kindly gifted to Swansea RFC by Mervyn.
