Jersey, British & Irish Lions, 1980. Red with Lions quartered badge on breast and white number 8 on back. Worn by Mervyn Davies.

Info

This is the 'Lions' jersey of Mervyn Davies from the successful tour of 1971 in which Davies played in all 4 tests. The 'Lions' won the series 2 - 1 with the fourth test match being drawn. Under the captaincy of his London Welsh skipper John Dawes, Mervyn played in 13 matches and scored 3 tries. He was one of the standout players of the tour, putting in world class performances. He then moved back to Swansea, playing for the 'All Whites' from 1972 to 1976 when his career was cut short by a near fatal brain haemorrhage. The 1971 tour to Australia and New Zealand still stands as a high point in the history of the British & Irish Lions. This jersey was kindly gifted to Swansea RFC by Mervyn.
