Info

This ‘All Black’ jersey was presented to Swansea RFC by Mervyn Davies and is from the Wales v New Zealand match at Cardiff Arms Park on 2nd December 1972. It was worn by All Blacks captain Ian Kirkpatrick. The tourists won 19 - 16, Phil Bennett missing a late penalty that would have drawn the match. Mervyn Davies first played for Wales against New Zealand in 1969. He also played in all 4 tests on the Lions’ victorious tour in New Zealand in 1971. Mervyn and Kirkpatrick swapped jerseys after the match and Mervyn later kindly donated this jersey to the St Helen's Archive collection.
