Description
Jersey, Wales, 1930s, red with P.O.W. feathers on breast. Black letter 'M' on back on white square.
Info
This is a forward's Welsh international jersey from some time between 1930 and 1949. The letter "M" on the back indicates it was a prop forward's jersey. Letters were used instead of numbers by Welsh international rugby teams until 1950, when numbers returned into use. The jersey position connected with this example was filled by more than one Swansea player during this period and provenance is difficult to establish at this point. The candidates to have worn the jersey are: Tom Day (1931-35), Harry Payne (1935), Eddie Morgan (1938-39), Leslie Davies (1939) and Dai Jones (1947-49). The condition and tailoring of the jersey suggest it is an earlier model from the 1930s, all but D.C.J. "Dai" Jones being possible owners. We are happy to receive further evidence connecting this Welsh international jersey to its proud wearer.
