Description

Jersey, green with Italian tricolour and '1972' on breast. White number 17 on back

Info

Jersey of the Italian State Police rugby club: Fiamme Oro Rugby. This is the rugby division of the Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro, the Sports division of the Italian State Police. The club was established in 1955 in Padua and was successful during the late 1950s and the 1960s, winning the Italian Championship 5 times and Coppa Italia 4 times, the last time in 1972. The reason why the collection has this jersey is still under investigation, though Swansea RFC did tour in Italy in 1972, a notorious tour that landed some of the players in Italian jails following a fracas. It is assumed there is no connection between that event and this jersey.
