Description
Wales cap presented to London Welsh and later Swansea wing Teddy Morgan in 1901. Red. P.O.W. feathers on front and '1901' on brim. Silver tassels.
Info
This is the Wales cap presented to wing Dr. E T "Teddy" Morgan of London Welsh and later of Swansea RFC. Morgan played on the wing 16 times for Wales, his first cap coming against 1902 against England at Blackheath while he was a Llwynypia player . This cap in the St Helen's Archive collection is clearly not a trial cap and may refer to the 1901-02 season. The reason for 1901 instead of 1902 on the peak is not confirmed. The cap is however identified twice on the inside as having belonged to Dr E T Morgan. Morgan joined Swansea late in the in 1907-08 season, when he moved to the Sketty area of the town to practice as a doctor. He won the last of his 16 Welsh caps on 3rd March 1908 at Cardiff Arms Park in a 36 - 4 win over France, bowing out of the international arena with two tries in the match. Morgan made his Swansea debut on 15th February 1908 at St Helen's against Leicester and played his seventh and final game on 20th April against the Barbarians. He presented the cap to the Swansea club.
