Abstract
This is the Wales cap awarded to Swansea forward W H Howell on his Welsh international debut against Scotland on 4th Feb. 1888 at Newport. The match was drawn (W 1T - 0 Sc) with no goals scored. Howell also played for Llandovery College, Swansea Juniors, Brynymor and Cardiff. At Swansea he often turned out at half-back. But for Wales was capped as a forward. The second of his two Welsh caps was won also in 1888 against Ireland. This is the oldest international cap in the St Helen's Archive.
