Info

This is the welsh rugby cap awarded to Swansea forward tom Jackson in his only appearance for Wales, which was against England on his club's home ground of St Helen's on Saturday 5th January 1895. England won the match by 1 goal, three tries and one minor to two Welsh tries (6 - 14). The English pack were able to dominate the Welsh forwards, though the English backs did not use the platform as well as they might have. Jackson unfortunately, was not reselected. A Danygraig man, Jackson played for that East Swansea club before transferring to Swansea in 1893. Tom Jackson won his only Welsh cap on 5th January 1895 at his club ground of St Helen's against England. He made his Swansea debut on 9th September 1893 against Pontardawe at St Helen's. Between 1893-94 and 1898-99 Tom played 146 matches for the Swansea 1st XV, scoring 34 tries. He also won representative honours with Glamorgan County FC His last Swansea match came at the end of Swansea's Welsh Championship winning season of 1898-99 in Paris against a combined French XV. He scored the first try in a 30 - 3 win and thus became the first Welshman to score a try in France.
