Abstract

This Cap was presented to Swansea Forward Tom Clark in 1880. It is the oldest cap in the collection and ‘cardinal’ red, the colours of the Swansea jersey in the earliest seasons. Tom Clark played for Swansea from 1876-1877 until 1881-1882 making 32 known appearances, predominantly as a forward. He was a South Wales Challenge Cup winner with Swansea in 1880 and was vice-captain in 1881-1882. Tom played in the trial match for the first ever representative Welsh side in 1881, though not selected for the Welsh team. He also played for the Swansea Workingmen's Club team and for South Wales.
